The First Symposium on Theoretical Computer Science held in Tsinghua University

The First Symposium on Theoretical Computer Science was held on Oct.13 in the Lecture Hall, FIT Building of Tsinghua University, which marks another Grand Gathering of the field in theoretical computer science since the successful workshop “China Theory Week 2008” was held by ITCS (Institute for Theoretical Computer Science) during Sep.21-27. All the faculty members, Ph.D. candidates, graduate students and undergraduate students from ITCS attend this symposium.

During this symposium, 20 world-famous scholars from prestigious universities such as Princeton University and MIT gather together, discussing problems on how to train scientists’ blood for students, how to carry out textbook program and how to teach them in accordance with their aptitude. Meanwhile, they bring new and fresh knowledge to students in a way of academic exchange, in order to create an academic atmosphere and broaden their horizon.
Prof. Andrew Chi-Chih Yao is the general chair of this symposium, and this conference is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China, State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, National Basic Research Program of China, Tsinghua University and Institute for Theoretical Computer Science, Tsinghua University.
The Institute for Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS) is a new institute founded in January of 2007 and headed by Professor Andrew Chi-Chih Yao at Tsinghua University. Its mission is to nurture and develop the talents of students and researchers and to create knowledge for the advancement of computer science. This symposium is one of the most important series of conferences in ITCS, and 20 lecturers will consist of a new chair professor team in ITCS.
