Abstract:

Cryptography has invaded the world: mobile phones, subways, printers, video games, DVDs and the Internet all feature cryptographic techniques. But how secure is cryptography in practice? Which cryptographic algorithms and which key-sizes should one use? Cryptanalysis, the dark side of cryptology, tries to answer these questions by designing and analyzing the best attacks. In this survey talk, we explain what is modern cryptanalysis. No prior knowledge of cryptanalysis is required.
